CASP Executive Committee Update

logo-leftnav-engCASP’s President, Douglas MacArthur, is a member of the Governing Council (Board of Directors) of Canada’s National Research Council. NRC is the Government of Canada’s premier organization for research and development. NRC comprises some 20 institutes and national programs.


General Director of the Romanian National Potato and Sugar Beet Institute visited CASP

Dr. Sorin Chiru, General Director of the Romanian national Potato and Sugar Beet Institute visited CASP in Prince Edward Island. During his visit, he met with CASP’s Executive Committee, toured potato research, production, processing, and potato marketing sites in order to assess goods, services, and technologies that may be helpful in upgrading and expanding the Romanian potato industry. CASP and the Romanian Potato Institute are collaborating on a number of Romanian potato and livestock initiatives.

CASP Computer Centre continues to expand

ra-muslimgirlcompDuring the work that CASP has completed in Ampara District, Sri Lanka several pilot projects were initiated. One of these projects was the CASP Computer and Training Centre in Akkaraipattu. Now operating since February 2007 the Centre has seen the graduation of classes in various programming from English language training to computer use and software training.

The training centre is one of a kind in the region and continues to be a valuable asset for the people of Akkaraipattu and the surrounding rural area. Since March 2008, the project has operated on a commercial basis without government funding. It continues to expand its activities and, in Spring 2010, has acquired several major new clients and new program activities.


CASP meets with Kuwait Ambassador

Al-Haroun, Ambassador to Canada for the State of Kuwait, met with CASP Director of Environmental Services, David Boyce, recently to talk about CASP’s work in international agriculture development. Mr. Boyce discussed work that CASP can do to benefit agriculture in the Middle East and Asia and working with partners like Kuwait to deliver our expertise to the region.
